The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has warned eight states to brace for heavy rains and possible flooding between today and Saturday.
The states at risk are Niger, Kogi, Benue, Lagos, Ogun, Ondo, Cross River, and Ebonyi.
NiMet forecasts thunderstorms and moderate rainfall in Borno, Yobe, Gombe, Bauchi, Adamawa, and Taraba. Katsina, Kano, Jigawa, Kebbi, Kaduna, and Sokoto will also see storms.

In the central region, residents of Nasarawa, Benue, Niger, Plateau, Kwara, Kogi, and the Federal Capital Territory should expect cloudy skies, thunderstorms, and light rain.
Southern states including Rivers, Bayelsa, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Ogun, Ondo, Oyo, Ekiti, and Osun will likely experience light to moderate rainfall.

NiMet stressed that Niger, Kogi, Benue, Lagos, Ogun, Ondo, Cross River, and Ebonyi face the highest flood risk during the forecast period.
The agency urged residents in vulnerable areas to take precautions and called on state authorities to boost emergency response to reduce the impact of flooding.
