The senator representing Sokoto South in the National Assembly, Aminu Tambuwal, has resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

In a letter dated March 11 and addressed to the PDP ward chairman in Tambuwal/Shinfiri, the former governor of Sokoto State attributed his decision to the persistent internal crisis and unresolved conflicts within the party.

The letter, which was made available to journalists on Thursday, said the decision followed consultations with his political associates and supporters.

“After deep reflection and extensive consultations with my political associates and supporters, I have decided to resign my membership of the Peoples Democratic Party with immediate effect,” Tambuwal stated.

According to the letter, the divisions and disagreements among party leaders at different levels had made it increasingly difficult for him to continue participating actively in the PDP.

“The ongoing conflicts have, unfortunately, weakened the unity and direction that once defined the party,” the letter stated.

Despite his defection, the former Speaker of the House of Representatives expressed appreciation to the PDP for the opportunities it gave him to serve the country in various capacities.

Tambuwal said his decision was guided by his belief that Nigeria needs a stronger political platform built on integrity, accountability, inclusiveness and a clear commitment to national development.

He also reaffirmed his commitment to serving the country and promoting the ideals of democracy, justice and national unity.
