The Federal Government has begun evacuating Nigerian nationals who wish to leave Iran following rising tensions in the Middle East. Officials are escorting the evacuees through the border with Armenia to ensure their safety.
The Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), Abike Dabiri-Erewa, confirmed the development in a post on her X account.
She said officials of the Nigerian Embassy in Tehran are coordinating the evacuation exercise. The embassy is also assisting Nigerians who have indicated interest in leaving the country.
According to her, embassy officials are escorting the evacuees to the Armenian border. Authorities have already made arrangements there to guarantee their safe passage out of Iran.

The evacuation follows heightened security concerns in the Middle East after coordinated military strikes against Iran by the United States and Israel.
The attacks triggered retaliatory missile and drone strikes across parts of the region. The escalation has raised fears that the crisis could expand into a wider regional conflict.
No Nigerian Casualties Recorded
Dabiri-Erewa assured Nigerians that no Nigerian citizen in Iran has been harmed since the hostilities began. She added that officials of the Nigerian Embassy remain stationed at the border.
The officials are receiving and supporting Nigerians who choose to leave the country.
“Willing Nigerians are being escorted across the Armenian border by officials of the Nigerian Embassy in Iran to ensure safe passage,” she said.
“No Nigerian in Iran has been affected by the war, as our officials are at the border to receive everyone who wants to leave.”
