Trump Confirms Arrest in Killing of Conservative Activist Charlie Kirk

U.S. President Donald Trump on Friday confirmed that authorities have taken a suspect into custody over the fatal shooting of conservative activist Charlie Kirk at a Utah university.

“I think we have him,” Trump told reporters, adding that someone who knows the suspect had turned him in, assisting law enforcement in the swift apprehension.

The shooting occurred earlier this week during a public event where Kirk, 31, was speaking. Kirk, founder of Turning Point USA, had long been a prominent figure in conservative youth politics and a staunch supporter of Trump.

Students and faculty at the university were left in shock, with the campus community mourning the sudden loss.

Through Turning Point USA, Kirk championed conservative values on college campuses, mentoring young students and influencing political discourse nationwide. His death has prompted condemnation from political leaders and widespread grief across the conservative movement.

The shooting has reignited discussions around campus security, gun control, and political polarisation in the U.S. Analysts warn that targeted attacks against high-profile political figures could have far-reaching consequences for public safety and political engagement.

Colleagues, supporters, and students have expressed grief and shock on social media. Vigils and memorial events are being planned at campuses where Turning Point USA operates, celebrating Kirk’s activism and influence among young conservatives.
