The Anambra State House of Assembly has dismissed claims that Governor Chukwuma Soludo influenced the suspension of Hon. Abuchi Udemezue, the lawmaker representing Ayamelum Constituency.
In a statement issued on Friday, Chairman of the House Committee on Media and Publicity, Ejike Okechukwu, described the allegations as false and mischievous.
He said the Assembly was responding to a statement credited to some federal lawmakers from Anambra North Senatorial Zone elected on the Labour Party platform, who criticised Udemezue’s suspension.
Okechukwu explained that while the House would ordinarily have ignored such remarks, it became necessary to set the record straight in order not to mislead the public.

According to him, Udemezue’s suspension was purely an internal disciplinary action of the Assembly, arising from his use of offensive and unparliamentary language on social media where he referred to colleagues as “mad men.”
“The decision to discipline Hon. Udemezue was entirely an internal legislative affair and not at the behest of the Executive. Every member is bound by the constitution and the standing orders of the House. No one is above discipline,” the statement read.
The lawmaker was suspended for three months earlier in the week after failing to satisfactorily defend his conduct before the Assembly.
