Nigerians Facing Renewed Agony, Not Hope- Oyinlola

By Rafiyat Sadiq

Former Osun State Governor, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, has criticised the current administration, saying Nigerians are experiencing hardship instead of the “Renewed Hope” promised during the 2023 election campaign.

Oyinlola made this remark on Tuesday during an interview on Frontline, a current affairs programme on Eagle 102.5 FM, Ilese Ijebu.

The former governor, who served from 2003 to 2010 and is also a retired army general, expressed concern about the country’s economic and security situation.

“When he was campaigning, he promised a renewed hope. What we are seeing now is nothing short of bad governance.

“The economy is in terrible shape, and it’s affecting every Nigerian, Oyinlola said.

Poverty, Insecurity, and Poor Living Conditions

He described the current state of the country as alarming, pointing to rising poverty, insecurity, and religious tension.

“We have a very bad economy, bad security, and hard-biting poverty.

“The common man cannot afford basic medication. We are also plagued by religious tension, war, banditry, terrorism, and insurgency. What we have is renewed agony, not renewed hope,” he stated.

Reaction to Osun PDP Endorsement of Tinubu

Last week, Governor Ademola Adeleke and the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun State endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for re-election in 2027. The endorsement was made after a stakeholders’ meeting at the Government House in Osogbo.

Oyinlola acknowledged the endorsement but clarified that it was a political strategy, not a reflection of shared ideology or trust in Tinubu’s leadership.

He maintained that the suffering faced by Nigerians is evidence that the administration has failed to deliver on its campaign promises.
