Nigeria to face Australia next as preparations continue for WAFU B U-17 Championship
Nigeria’s Golden Eaglets began their campaign at the four-nation invitational tournament in China with a narrow 3-2 defeat to Tanzania on Sunday.
The Nigerian side endured a difficult first half as Tanzania raced into a two-goal lead through strikes from Issa Chole and Hamisi Chenga.
The Golden Eaglets returned after the break with renewed intensity, pulling one goal back after mounting sustained pressure on the Tanzanian defence.
However, Tanzania restored their two-goal advantage when Kassim Juma produced a fine finish to make it 3-1.
Nigeria responded again with a second goal a few minutes later, but the late effort was not enough to prevent defeat as Tanzania held on for a 3-2 victory.
Attention Turns to Australia
Coach Uwejamomere Eboboritse’s side will now shift focus to their second fixture against Australia on Wednesday as they seek their first win of the tournament.

The four-nation invitational forms an important part of Nigeria’s preparations for the WAFU B U-17 Championship scheduled for September.
The regional competition will also serve as the qualifying tournament for the 2027 Africa U-17 Cup of Nations, making the China invitational a valuable opportunity for the Golden Eaglets to fine-tune their squad ahead of the crucial qualifiers.
