Tinubu Nominates Joseph Tegbe as Minister of Power

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has nominated Mr. Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe as Nigeria’s new Minister of Power, pending his confirmation by the Senate.

The nomination was officially transmitted to the upper legislative chamber in line with constitutional requirements.

The appointment fills the vacancy left by former Minister Adebayo Adelabu, who resigned recently to join the governorship race in Oyo State ahead of the 2027 general election.

According to a statement by Tinubu’s spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, Tegbe, who is a  native of Oyo State, brings over three decades of experience across both public and private sectors.

Onanuga said he is a fiscal and economic reform specialist, having served as a Senior Partner and Head of Advisory Services at KPMG Africa.

In that role, he led major initiatives in fiscal policy, institutional governance, and regulatory reform, while advising government bodies and private firms on investment structuring.

Currently, Tegbe serves as Director General and Global Liaison for the Nigeria-China Strategic Partnership (NCSP), where he manages bilateral development cooperation with China.

His work aligns with the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) objectives and involves coordinating with public sector stakeholders to advance economic and social development.

Notably, Tegbe has direct experience in the power sector, particularly on regulatory and institutional reforms involving the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) and the Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading Company (NBET).

The statement says President Tinubu expects that, upon confirmation, Tegbe will apply his expertise to accelerate ongoing power sector reforms, improve grid stability, and attract sustainable investments under the Renewed Hope Agenda—ultimately delivering better electricity outcomes for Nigerians.
