Former Minister of Justice, and African Democratic Congress (ADC) Governorship candidate for Kebbi State, Abubakar Malami, SAN, has inaugurated a 600-member campaign council ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Malami, after inaugurating the council members in Kebbi on Wednesday, said the inauguration marked the beginning of a coordinated effort to take the ADC’s programmes and message to communities, wards and polling units across the state.
Malami Calls for Unity
The former minister urged members to work together to build a strong grassroots campaign structure across the state’s 21 local government areas.
He said the council was deliberately structured to reflect the diversity of Kebbi, with members drawn from different communities, local government areas and senatorial districts.
Malami said the campaign should not be centred on individual candidates or positions, but on the collective interests of the party.
“This Campaign Council represents our collective ADC campaign. It is not about one candidate or one elective position. From the governorship to the Senate, House of Representatives and State House of Assembly, we must work as one political family,” he said.

He acknowledged the party’s senatorial candidates, including General Aminu Bande for Kebbi Central, Garba Maidoki for Kebbi South and Chiroman Kabi, Alhaji Mera, for Kebbi North.
Warns Against Division
Malami cautioned members against tribalism, sectionalism and personal rivalry, saying internal divisions could undermine the party’s chances in the elections.
He urged party members to resolve disagreements through dialogue and reconciliation.
“Where there are disagreements, let us reconcile. Where there are grievances, let us listen. Where there is suspicion, let us rebuild trust. Our diversity must become our strength,” he said.
He introduced the campaign theme, “One ADC, One Campaign,” and called on candidates and supporters to put the collective interest of the party ahead of personal ambitions.
“Different candidates, one ADC. Different communities, one Kebbi State. Different responsibilities, one common purpose,” Malami said.
Rejects Hate Speech
The former minister also advised campaign council members to avoid inflammatory statements, hate speech, ethnic insults and attacks on political opponents.
He said political disagreements should not destroy relationships among communities, noting that residents would continue to live together after the elections.
“After the elections, we will still worship together, attend the same markets, celebrate together, mourn together and raise our children together. No political ambition is worth destroying those bonds,” he said.
Malami described the appointments as a call to service rather than a reward, charging the council members to mobilise supporters, reconcile aggrieved members and explain the party’s programmes to voters at the grassroots.
He urged members to return to their communities as ambassadors and bridge-builders, stressing that the success of the campaign would depend on unity and discipline.
The inauguration comes as political parties intensify grassroots mobilisation ahead of the 2027 general elections, with Kebbi expected to witness increased political activity across the governorship, National Assembly and State House of Assembly contests.
Malami said the inauguration had opened a new phase of mobilisation for the ADC in the state.
“We choose unity over division. We choose cooperation over rivalry. We choose reconciliation over bitterness. We choose respect over insults. We choose service over personal interest,” he said.
