Kebbi: ADC Demands Urgent Action as Insecurity, Thuggery Worsen

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Kebbi State has raised alarm over the rising cases of insecurity and political thuggery across the state, urging both state and federal authorities to take immediate and decisive action to curb the trend.
The party made the appeal on Sunday during a press briefing held after its stakeholders’ meeting in Birnin Kebbi.
Speaking on behalf of the party, Chiroman Kabi, Ibrahim Mohammed-Mera, said discussions at the meeting centred on the worsening security situation and the growing threat of politically motivated violence.
He condemned a recent incident in Argungu, where thugs allegedly attacked guests during a wedding Fatiha inside a mosque, describing the act as “unacceptable” and “a dangerous signal ahead of future political activities.”
“It is unbecoming for any political leader to sponsor or support such acts. The ADC condemns these incidents in totality and calls for peace to prevail in Kebbi,” Mohammed-Mera said.

The ADC chieftain also decried the deteriorating security situation in other parts of the state, recalling the recent killing of a Nigerian soldier in Sakaba Local Government Area.
He lamented that banditry, kidnapping, and other violent crimes had continued unchecked, leaving citizens traumatised, farmlands abandoned, and local economies crippled.
Mohammed-Mera urged both the state and federal governments, alongside security agencies, to adopt coordinated and intelligence-driven operations to restore peace and protect residents.
He also cautioned political actors against the use of intimidation or violence to achieve political goals, warning that such actions undermine democracy and could further destabilise the state.
“The ADC remains committed to peaceful engagement and democratic values. We will continue to advocate for policies and actions that promote stability, justice, and the safety of all citizens,” he added.
