FG Partners Global Giant Sinoma to Fast-Track Affordable Housing in Nigeria

In its quest to close the widening housing gap in Nigeria, the Federal Government is partnering with Sinoma, a global building materials manufacturer, to fast-track the delivery of affordable housing.

This development was disclosed in a press statement issued on Wednesday, April 15, by the Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, following a high-level meeting between the Minister, Arch. Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, and the executives of Sinoma New Materials Nigeria Company Limited in Abuja.

At the heart of the discussions is a proposed partnership focused on deploying innovative construction technologies, promoting sustainable building practices, and boosting local manufacturing of building materials—all aimed at making home ownership more accessible to Nigerians.

Speaking during the engagement, Minister Dangiwa made it clear that the Federal Government’s priority is to ensure that low- and middle-income earners can realistically own homes within their working years.

He stressed that current building methods are too slow and expensive to meet Nigeria’s housing needs, particularly for average workers, noting that innovation is no longer optional but essential.

Demand for Speed and Proven Solutions

According to him, the government is actively seeking construction solutions that can deliver houses faster, cheaper, and at scale, without compromising quality. However, he maintained that any new technology must be proven and demonstrable before it can be widely adopted.

The Minister also raised concerns about construction timelines, questioning how quickly developers can deliver mass housing projects if given land, and emphasising that speed remains a critical factor in addressing the nation’s housing deficit.

Sinoma New Materials Nigeria Company Limited, described as one of the world’s largest manufacturers of building materials, used the meeting to present its range of solutions tailored to modern construction needs.

Leading the company’s delegation, its Chairman, Mr. Eric, expressed strong alignment with Nigeria’s housing agenda, particularly under the Renewed Hope Housing Programme. He highlighted the company’s commitment to supporting large-scale housing delivery, industrialising building materials production, and driving sustainable construction practices.

He further described housing development as more than a social service, noting that it has the potential to drive economic growth, create jobs, and strengthen local industries.

A key innovation introduced during the meeting is the SinoBoard Fibre Cement Technology, a building solution designed to support faster and more efficient construction. The system uses prefabrication and dry construction methods, which significantly reduce building time while maintaining structural durability.

The technology is also resistant to moisture, fire, termites, and harsh weather conditions, making it suitable for Nigeria’s diverse climate. In addition, it offers cost advantages by reducing long-term maintenance expenses and supporting environmentally friendly housing initiatives.

Mr. Eric stated that such solutions could play a major role in delivering mass housing projects across Nigeria, particularly in underserved areas.

Beyond technology deployment, the company also indicated its readiness to invest in Nigeria through the establishment of local manufacturing facilities. This, it said, would support technology transfer, create jobs, and strengthen the domestic building materials industry.

In response, Minister Dangiwa revealed that the Federal Government is already planning to establish building materials manufacturing hubs across the country. These hubs are expected to serve as production centres for innovative construction materials, helping to reduce costs and accelerate housing development.

He noted that companies capable of delivering proven and scalable solutions could become key players within these hubs.

Mortgage Model to Support Home Ownership

The Minister also reiterated the government’s commitment to Public-Private Partnerships, explaining that under such arrangements, the government may provide land while private developers bring in financing, technology, and expertise.

He added that the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria could support the process by purchasing completed housing units on behalf of beneficiaries and paying developers upfront, while recovering costs through structured mortgage schemes.

To ensure progress, the Minister directed relevant departments within the ministry to continue engagements with Sinoma and refine its proposals in line with national housing priorities.

The emerging partnership signals a potential shift in Nigeria’s housing strategy—from traditional construction methods to technology-driven, industrial-scale solutions—at a time when millions of Nigerians remain without access to affordable housing.

If successfully implemented, the collaboration could redefine how homes are built in Nigeria, making them not only faster to deliver but also more accessible to the average citizen.
