President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has received the Shield Award of the Nigeria Civil Service Union ( NCSU) in recognition of his commitment to the welfare of Nigerian workers.
The award, which was received by the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo on behalf of President Tinubu, was presented on Monday as part of activities marking the NCSU’s 114th anniversary at Merit House, Abuja.
This was made known in a statement signed by Tunde Moshood, Special Adviser on Media and Communication to Minister Keyamo.
The union’s National President, Comrade Oluwole Sunday, led the delegation that presented the award.
Sunday was accompanied by the immediate past President and Chairman of the occasion, Comrade Lawrence Ameachi; Chairman of the Federal Council, Comrade Adoga Gupada; and Assistant General Secretary, Comrade Yildet Bigwan.
‘True Shield of Nigerian Worker’
While conferring the honour, Sunday described Tinubu as “a true shield of the Nigerian worker,” citing policies which he said had prioritised the interests of Nigerian workers.

The union also said the President’s interventions had boosted morale within the civil service and demonstrated concern for the welfare of workers across the country.
The NCSU, which has 84 affiliates, is the oldest trade union in Nigeria, with a history spanning more than a century and predating the creation of Nigeria as a nation.
The union is also recognised for its role in confronting the British colonial authorities in defence of Nigerian workers.
Speaking after receiving the award, Keyamo expressed excitement over the honour from what he described as Nigeria’s oldest trade union.
The minister, who was also recognised by the union for his continued solidarity with Nigerian workers, highlighted Tinubu’s commitment to the welfare of the workforce.
Following the ceremony, Keyamo displayed the award in his office alongside leaders of the union.
