 IGP Charges Border Patrol Commanders to Strengthen Nigeria’s Security

Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun has directed Border Patrol Commanders nationwide to intensify efforts in securing Nigeria’s borders and maritime corridors.

Speaking on Friday at a conference with the commanders at Force Headquarters, Abuja, Egbetokun described them as the nation’s first line of defence against external threats and urged proactive measures to prevent cross-border crimes.

“The Nigeria Police Force cannot tackle 21st-century crimes with 20th-century tools. That is why we must embrace technology surveillance systems, drones, biometric scanners, and real-time data analysis,” he said.

CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, Force Public Relations Officer, noted that the IGP also emphasised intelligence-led policing, inter-agency collaboration, and building public trust as critical components of effective border security.

Egbetokun commended officers for their efforts so far and assured them that their welfare remains a top priority under his leadership.
