The Chairman of Akoko-Edo Local Government Area of Edo State, Hon Alabi Bliss Oshionogue, has been removed from office following his impeachment by members of the council’s legislative arm.
The impeachment was conveyed in a letter signed on Wednesday by seven councillors, a move that came hours after a scheduled peace meeting between the chairman and the aggrieved councillors failed to hold at the Edo State House of Assembly.
It was gathered that after the aborted meeting, the seven councillors proceeded to Igarra, the headquarters of Akoko-Edo Local Government Area, where they formally issued the impeachment letter.

In the letter, the councillors stated: “We, the undersigned members of Akoko-Edo Local Government Area Legislative Arm, hereby impeach you as the acting local government council chairman with effect from today, January 28, 2026.”
They said the decision followed allegations of abuse of office, high-handedness, embezzlement of council funds, anti-party activities, financial recklessness, forgery and persistent disobedience to constituted authorities.
Meanwhile, a video circulating on social media showed the moment the impeached chairman was escorted out of the council premises by onlookers.
