BUA Cement has restated its move to increase its total production capacity to 20 million metric tonnes per annum (mtpa). This expansion is part of the company’s strategic goal to address Nigeria’s infrastructure deficit and lower the cost of cement through increased domestic supply.
BUA Chairman Abdul Samad Rabiu said part of the expansion plan is to add a new 3-million-ton cement production line in Sokoto.
In a post on his X handle, Rabiu said the discussion took place during a meeting with the Chairman of CBMI Construction Ltd., Mr. Zhang Sicai, and his team at BUA’s office in Dubai.
The billionaire industrialist said part of their discussion focused on highlighting the potential of the industrial expansion and the successful execution of the project.
He said that when completed, the line expansion would raise BUA Cement’s total annual production capacity to 20 million tons.
CBMI Construction Ltd. is a subsidiary of China’s state-owned SINOMA Group.

“Excited to welcome my friend Mr. Zhang Sicai, Chairman of CBMI Construction Ltd. (SINOMA China), and his team from China to our Dubai office.
“As we discuss the potential addition of a new 3-million-ton cement production line in Sokoto, we reflect on over 15 years of close partnership with CBMI.”
He revealed that they have been a “trusted collaborator, delivering 14 million tons of cement production lines and helping us grow together.”
“This next expansion would bring our total annual cement production capacity to 20 million tons — another milestone in our shared journey of success.”

Pinnacle Daily recalls that Rabiu had, during the BUA Cement’s Annual General meeting (AGM) in July 2025, hinted at the move to increase the company’s capacity to 20 million tons per annum.
The company had in 2024, successfully commissioned additional production lines in Edo and Sokoto states. The chairman said during the AGM that the expansion increased the company’s installed capacity from 11 million tons per annum to 17 million tons per annum.
The production lines are: Obu Line 3 (Edo State), which added three million tons per annum, and Sokoto Line 5 (Sokoto State), which also added three million tons per annum, bringing the total to 17mtpa.
Additionally, BUA is constructing a new three mtpa production line in Ososo, Edo State, with a completion and commissioning target of the first quarter (Q1) of 2027.
Industry analyst observed that when completed, it will cement BUA’s position as a dominant player in the South-South and North-West regions of Nigeria
