Court Remands Singer Portable Over Assault, Theft Allegations

Controversial Nigerian singer Habeed Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has been remanded in custody after he was arraigned on multiple criminal charges at the Federal High Court in Ota, Ogun State.

Portable appeared in court on Monday to face a nine-count charge bordering on assault, theft, causing bodily harm, and resisting arrest. The Ogun State Police Command confirmed the development through its spokesperson, Oluseyi Babaseyi.

According to the police, the charges stem from incidents that allegedly occurred on New Year’s Day at the singer’s bar in Iyana Ilogbo.

Prosecutors alleged that Portable assaulted his estranged partner, Ashabi Simple, alongside several police officers and civilians. Those listed as victims include Ileyemi Damilola, Akinyanju Oluwabusayomi, Olowu Olumide, Demilade Ogunniyi, and Ebuka Odah.

Although Ashabi Simple was absent from court, two of her siblings reportedly testified as witnesses to the alleged assault.

The singer also faces allegations of stealing a Mercedes-Benz E300 valued at ₦12 million. Police said the vehicle belongs to Ileyemi Damilola and was purchased from Wally Dex Auto.

In addition, prosecutors accused Portable of obstructing and assaulting a female police inspector, Ogungbe Olayemi, while she was carrying out her official duties.

The presiding judge declined to grant bail, citing the absence of the allegedly assaulted police officer in court. The judge ruled that the officer must be present before bail can be considered.
