The Adamawa State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has called on prominent politicians who are yet to formalize their membership to register with the party.

State Chairman of the ADC, Shehu Yohanna, made the appeal on Friday at the party’s state headquarters in Yola during the official commencement of its membership registration exercise.

Yohanna specifically mentioned former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, as among those expected to complete their registration.

He explained that only duly registered members with official membership cards would have the legitimacy to exercise influence in the party.

“ADC has come to stay because it has been in existence since 2002. Today, by the special grace of God, coalition members have chosen ADC, but they must come and register formally,” Yohanna said.

“Even our coalition leaders like Atiku and Babachir must go back to their wards to register. Until then, they cannot be regarded as bona fide members with a voice in the party,” he added.

The chairman urged coalition partners and stakeholders to take part in the exercise, stressing that the ADC in Adamawa was determined to position itself as a leading political force in the state and across Nigeria.

Expressing optimism about the party’s prospects, Yohanna said the ADC, with its coalition structure, has the capacity to provide Nigerians with a credible alternative and rescue the country from socio-economic decline.
