PDP Hits Back at APC Over Criticism of Internal Crisis

Osun: NULGE, APC, PDP Clash Over Alleged Diversion of LG Funds

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has faulted the National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Felix Morka, over his claim that the opposition party has ceased to function as a political platform, describing the remark as unfortunate and a reflection of what it termed delusional propaganda.

In a statement issued on Monday, the PDP, through its National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong, insisted that despite defections allegedly orchestrated by the APC, Nigerians have continued to reject the ruling party due to the hardship caused by the policies of Bola Tinubu’s administration.

The party maintained that its relevance remains intact, arguing that growing public dissatisfaction with the APC government outweighs any internal challenges it may be facing.

Morka’s Criticism of PDP

Morka had earlier said the PDP could no longer describe itself as a political party, citing internal dysfunction and its inability to provide a credible platform for members to pursue their political ambitions.

Reacting, Ememobong described the statement as unfortunate.

“We have read a statement credited to the National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, Felix Morka, claiming that the Peoples Democratic Party is no longer a political party because of the defection of some political office holders, a strategy curated and executed by the APC itself.

“This statement is most unfortunate and a clear indication that Morka and his cohorts are delusional,” the statement read.

The PDP further alleged that despite large-scale defections secured through pressure and inducement by the APC, Nigerians have continued to reject the ruling party, accusing it of worsening living conditions across the country.

It also claimed that the APC has struggled with membership registration in several states, alleging that some governors resorted to using state empowerment programme databases to populate party registers.

The party cited the disruption of a recent political event in Owerri as an indication of mounting resistance against the ruling party.

Historical References and Warning

Ememobong, in a strongly worded response, warned against what he described as propaganda, drawing parallels with historical figures such as Joseph Goebbels and Adolf Hitler, and cautioned that such tactics ultimately backfire on their proponents.

He added that those defending the current administration would be judged harshly in history, particularly in relation to what he described as threats to Nigeria’s democracy.

Wave of Defections Weakens PDP

Meanwhile, the PDP has continued to grapple with defections, which have reduced its number of state governors to two, in Oyo and Bauchi, while the APC now controls 31 of the country’s 36 states.

The latest defection is that of Dauda Lawal, who recently joined the APC, extending a wave of defections that has seen several PDP governors switch allegiance since 2025.
