The newly crowned Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, has cautioned traditional title holders against abusing their positions by seizing people’s wives and lands.

Oba Ladoja issued the warning in his inaugural address during his coronation ceremony on Friday at the historic Mapo Hall in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

The former Oyo State governor, who became the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland, urged Mogajis, Baales and chiefs to uphold integrity and focus on their responsibilities instead of exploiting their offices.

“All the traditional title holders, you have work to do. You have many roles to play. Do not snatch people’s wives and lands. I hope you are all listening to me. That is not your role,” he said.

Oba Ladoja expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and other dignitaries present at the ceremony. He also acknowledged Tinubu’s ties to Ibadan through First Lady Oluremi Tinubu.

“I greet the President, my good friend, Bola Ahmed Tinubu. You are welcome. If you are not from Ibadan, you met Remi in Ibadan, and I am happy she is your pillar. I am happy that Ibadan is the home for all Yoruba,” he said.

The monarch stressed that Ibadan remains central to the Yoruba race, adding that unity has sustained the city despite challenges.

“Any Yoruba who has no house in Ibadan is yet to have a house. I am happy for the life of our governor; all Ibadan indigenes are the sons and daughters of Ibadanland. Some people thought Ibadan would be in crisis. We have settled it. Ibadan has only one room but different windows. We settle things by ourselves,” he added.

Oba Ladoja also called for the creation of an Ibadan State, pledging to continue working for the people of Ibadan, Nigeria, and Africa.

“What is paramount is that we should have Ibadan State. God still wants me to work more for the people. I will continue to work for the people. I want to thank the coronation committee,” he said.
