The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Benue State has dismissed claims by the Senator David Mark-led faction of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) that it has attracted more than 10,000 PDP members and taken control of Agatu politics.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the PDP’s State Publicity Secretary, Tim Nyor, described the ADC’s assertion as “a deliberate fabrication” and “an insult to the intelligence of the good people of Agatu.”

Nyor pointed to the 2023 general election results as evidence of PDP’s dominance, noting that the party polled 14,936 votes in Agatu, while the All Progressives Congress (APC) managed 5,956 votes.

He questioned how “an infant party” like the ADC could claim to have won over 10,000 PDP members, which amounts to about 75 per cent of the entire voting population in the area.

“This is yet another fallacy in a series of fabrications by a party currently struggling with internal wranglings and disputes over its own structures,” the statement read.

The PDP urged its members and supporters to disregard the ADC’s “spurious assertions” and remain committed to consolidating the party’s strength ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Reaffirming its influence in the area, the party stressed that it remains the preferred choice in Agatu and across Benue State, citing its grassroots presence and record of service delivery.

The ADC had said it recorded 10,000 new members who defected from  PDP, the All Progressives Congress (APC), and other political parties  in Agatu Local Government Area of Benue State.

The mass defection took place on Saturday, May 13, 2025, during the official unveiling of the ADC in Agatu by the Benue State Chairman of the party, Rt. Hon. Terngu Tsegba.

The ceremony, held in Agatu LGA of the Benue South Senatorial District, witnessed a large turnout of decampees, political supporters, and admirers of Sir John Ngbede, a prominent political leader in Agatu.
