FCT Police Gun Down Apo Robbery Kingpin, Recover AK Rifles

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has neutralized a notorious gang leader linked to the armed robbery at Zone E Extension, Apo Resettlement, on June 23, 2025, during a follow-up operation that also led to the recovery of firearms and ammunition.

According to the Command, operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit, acting on credible intelligence, tracked the gang to Kurape Hills after it was discovered that the criminals had crossed from Nasarawa forests into the FCT through Karshi to launch another deadly attack.

FCT Police spokesperson SP Josephine Adeh said the suspects opened fire on sighting the operatives, prompting a fierce exchange of gunfire. The gang leader, identified as Umar Manu, also known as “Small”, was killed, while other members of the gang escaped with suspected gunshot wounds.

From the scene, police recovered:

  • One AK-49 rifle with breech number A529
  • One AK-47 rifle with a defaced number
  • One AK-49 rifle with a defaced number
  • Three (3) magazines
  • Eleven (11) rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition

During the encounter, the Commander of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit and another officer sustained minor injuries. Both have since been treated and discharged.

The Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Ajao S. Adewale, psc, mnips, commended the professionalism and bravery of the officers. He vowed that the police would sustain aggressive operations to flush out criminal gangs from the FCT and its borders.

“Criminals who dare to test the resolve of the police will meet the same fate as the neutralized gang leader,” the CP warned.

He also appealed to residents, especially healthcare providers, to report any person seeking treatment for bullet wounds or suspicious injuries to the police. The public can reach the Command through its emergency lines.

The June 23 Apo Resettlement robbery left residents in fear, with police launching an intensive manhunt for the attackers.
