Super Falcons head coach, Justine Madugu, says the team is steadily building form and will continue to improve ahead of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
The African champions secured a 2–1 victory over Senegal in an international friendly played at the Remo Stars Stadium, Ikenne, on Friday.
Asisat Oshoala and Toni Payne were both on the scoresheet as the Super Falcons edged past their West African opponents in a closely contested encounter.
The team is expected to face Senegal again in another friendly at the same venue on Monday, as part of ongoing preparations for the continental tournament.

Madugu said the friendlies are primarily designed to assess the team’s readiness and refine tactical approaches ahead of WAFCON 2026.
“This is a preparatory game, and the aim is to assess our readiness, test the strategies we want to execute in the competition, and give players the opportunity to showcase what they can do to provide us with more options,” he said.
He added that continuous evaluation of players and systems remains central to the team’s buildup process as they target another strong continental campaign.
