Nigeria’s Super Falcons will receive $1 million in prize money after securing their 10th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) title in a dramatic 3–2 comeback win over hosts Morocco on Saturday night.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) had earlier announced a 45 per cent increase in the tournament prize pool, raising the total to $3.475 million and doubling the winners’ payout from the previous edition.

In front of a packed stadium in Casablanca, the Falcons found themselves trailing after early goals from Morocco’s Ghizlane Chebbak and Sanaa Mssoudy stunned the visitors.

However, Nigeria roared back into the game. Esther Okoronkwo converted a penalty to reduce the deficit, then turned provider by setting up Folashade Ijamilusi for the equaliser.

With minutes left on the clock, Jennifer Echegini latched onto a set piece and slotted home the winner, sealing a sensational comeback.

The win not only gave Nigeria a record-extending 10th WAFCON title but also earned them the newly unveiled tournament trophy and the highest-ever prize money in the competition’s history.

CAF President Patrice Motsepe praised the Falcons’ resilience and the overall growth of women’s football on the continent, calling the final “a new chapter for African women’s sports”.
