Super Eagles striker Cyriel Dessers has expressed disappointment over his injury-forced exit from the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Dessers returned to his Greek club, Panathinaikos, last week after sustaining a thigh injury during training with the Super Eagles. The 31-year-old striker did not make any appearance in Morocco before leaving the camp and is expected to be off for approximately three months.

Taking to social media, Dessers shared his frustration, “Unfortunately I sustained an injury at AFCON. It’s extremely difficult to accept that I will miss the remainder of the tournament and an important period at Panathinaikos,” he wrote.
Despite his absence, Dessers said he will be rooting for the Super Eagles in their Round of 16 clash against Algeria on Saturday.
