Zamfara 2027: APC Chieftain, Sani Shinkafi Declares Governorship Ambition

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Zamfara State, Dr. Sani Abdullahi Shinkafi, has officially declared his intention to contest the 2027 governorship election on the platform of the party.

Shinkafi, a former National Secretary of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), made the declaration while addressing his supporters in Gusau, the state capital.

He said the time had come for internal democracy to prevail within the APC, insisting that every member had an equal right to seek elective office.

“I am a qualified member of the APC and I have the right to contest the party’s primary election for any position,” Shinkafi said.

The APC stalwart criticised what he described as the continued dominance of the Zamfara West Senatorial Zone in the state’s leadership structure since the return of democracy in 1999.

According to him, the zone had produced all but one of the governors since the creation of the state.

“Former Governor Ahmed Sani Yarima ruled for eight years and later spent 12 years in the Senate.

“Abdulaziz Yari also governed for eight years, while Bello Matawalle served for four years. All of them are from Zamfara West,” he stated.

Shinkafi argued that Zamfara North, which produced Mahmuda Aliyu Shinkafi for just one term, deserved a fair chance in 2027.

Another APC Chieftain Supports Matawalle as Best Candidate

Meanwhile, another APC chieftain in the state, Alhaji Aminu Muhammad Kaura, has thrown his weight behind the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, describing him as the best candidate to lead the party in the next election.

Kaura noted that several stakeholders and party supporters were already mobilising support for Matawalle, whom he described as a unifying figure capable of restoring party cohesion ahead of the polls.
