The National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement Worldwide, Yunusa Tanko, has revealed that Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), has formally submitted his proposal to serve a single term in office if elected in 2027.
Speaking on Tuesday at a chieftaincy event in Gombe, Tanko stated that Obi’s one-term offer has been presented to the coalition formed to unseat President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the next general election.
“We have presented it to the coalition. It is there for them to make a decision. But we are confident it can work. This is a pronouncement rooted in integrity, and Peter Obi embodies that. What Nigeria needs now are leaders with integrity,” Tanko said.

Obi had on Monday declared his willingness to serve only one term if elected president, aligning with the “unwritten power-sharing agreement” and zoning principle, which he said mandates that any southern candidate should vacate office by May 28, 2031.
The opposition coalition, which includes former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, ex-transportation minister Rotimi Amaechi, and former Kaduna State governor Nasir el-Rufai, recently adopted the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as its platform for the 2027 elections.
4 Years Sufficient to Implement Agenda
Tanko further explained that while the idea of a single presidential term is not constitutionally mandated, Obi believes four years is sufficient to implement his agenda.
“That shows you how prepared and focused he is because even stabilising electricity alone will solve a multitude of problems,” Tanko said.
He added, “He is promising that under his leadership, Nigeria will become an exporting country again. Planes will no longer leave our airports empty.”
