Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has officially confirmed Deputy Governor Murtala Sule Garo as his running mate for the 2027 governorship election.
The announcement comes ahead of the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) deadline for political parties to submit the names of their candidates for the 2027 elections.
Governor Yusuf made the announcement during a meeting with federal political appointees of President Bola Tinubu at the Kano Governor’s Lodge in Abuja.

According to a statement issued on Monday by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, Yusuf said his decision was based on Garo’s loyalty, commitment and performance since he assumed office.
“I have no regrets about choosing Murtala Sule Garo as my deputy in the last few months, and he has proven to be the right choice. I have every confidence in him,” the governor said.
Yusuf also expressed satisfaction with his deputy’s contributions to the administration, describing him as competent, dependable and committed to the development of Kano State.
He urged party leaders, political appointees and supporters to remain united as the administration prepares for the 2027 general elections.
Garo became deputy governor in April 2026 following the resignation of Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo after Yusuf defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC). His appointment followed months of consultations and ended the contest among party members seeking the position.
The governor’s endorsement is expected to strengthen the APC’s preparations for the 2027 governorship election in Kano State.
