PDP: Turaki’s NWC Tightens Grip as Political Heavyweights Converge In Abuja

Factional national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Kabiru Turaki, has engaged party leaders, including Seyi Makinde and Bala Mohammed, governors of Oyo and Bauchi, respectively, over the rollout of the party’s electronic membership registration exercise.

The meeting also involved the PDP’s 37 state chairmen and members of the national working committee (NWC), as the party moves to commence the digital registration of members nationwide.

In a statement issued on Sunday, Ini Ememobong, national publicity secretary of the Turaki-led PDP, said the e-registration exercise would begin on Monday and run for three weeks across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

On Monday, Turaki convened a virtual meeting with members of the NWC, governors and state chairmen to formally kick off the exercise.

In a statement shared via X, Turaki described the meeting as a strategic step aimed at strengthening the party’s internal structures and modernising its membership database.

He said discussions at the session focused on the modalities for the e-registration exercise and the responsibilities of each state chapter in ensuring its successful implementation.

“This exercise is not just a routine administrative update, but a strategic step towards strengthening our internal structures, enhancing transparency and modernising our membership database across the country,” he said.

Initiative Intended to Improve Coordination-Turaki

According to Turaki, the initiative is designed to improve coordination and reposition the party’s internal systems through a digitally driven membership framework.

He said party leaders reviewed the operational framework for the exercise, including timelines, coordination mechanisms, reporting channels and responsibilities at both state and local government levels.

“I stressed the importance of early preparation, stakeholder sensitisation and proper supervision to avoid bottlenecks and ensure a seamless rollout,” he added.

Turaki said he urged state chairmen and NWC members to take ownership of the process by working closely with state executives and technical teams to ensure inclusiveness, credibility and efficiency.

“Our collective commitment will determine the smoothness and overall success of this initiative,” he said.

He added that the interaction was frank and solution-oriented, with contributions from governors, NWC members and representatives from across the states.

According to him, the meeting reflected a shared resolve among PDP leaders to reposition the party for greater effectiveness through a modern and responsive membership system.
