The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that it will not recognise the Kabiru Turaki-led National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing subsisting court judgments and unresolved legal processes.
In a letter dated December 22, 2025, and signed by its Secretary, Dr Rose Oriaran-Anthony, the commission said it could not accede to requests to acknowledge or upload on its website the list of national officers said to have emerged from the party’s National Convention held on November 15 and 16, 2025, in Ibadan, Oyo State.
INEC explained that its decision was guided by existing court rulings and pending litigation arising from the leadership crisis rocking the PDP.

According to the commission, recognising or validating any factional leadership while the matter remains before the courts would be improper.
The development is the latest in the protracted internal crisis within the opposition party, which has continued to generate legal battles and factional claims to leadership.
