A Federal High Court sitting in Ibadan, Oyo State, has nullified the national convention of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) held in the state on November 15, 2025.
In a ruling delivered on Friday, Justice Uche Agomoh barred the national officers elected at the convention from presenting themselves as the party’s legitimate leadership.
The judge held that the November convention was organised in clear violation of subsisting court orders. He ruled that the PDP could not disregard court directives and later seek judicial validation for actions carried out in defiance of those orders.
Justice Agomoh further declared that the party can only function through its caretaker committee until a valid and lawful national convention is conducted.
The suit was filed by a faction of the PDP National Working Committee (NWC) led by Kabiru Turaki, the party’s national chairman. The faction sought court recognition of the Ibadan convention and validation of the NWC members elected at the event.
Background
In November 2025, the Turaki-led faction organised the PDP national convention in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
At the convention, 20 members of the NWC were elected, including Kabiru Turaki as national chairman; Hamza Akuyan Koshe as deputy national chairman (north); Daniel Ambrose Woye as deputy national chairman (south); and Arapaja Taofeek Gbola-Oladejo as national secretary.

However, the convention was preceded by conflicting court orders.
On October 31, 2025, the Federal High Court in Abuja restrained the PDP from proceeding with the convention.
Justice Inyang Ekwo Omotosho held that evidence before the court showed the party failed to conduct valid state congresses before the planned national convention, as required by the 1999 Constitution, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) guidelines, and the PDP constitution.
On November 4, 2025, the Oyo State High Court ordered the PDP and its former national chairman, Umar Damagum, to go ahead with the national convention scheduled for November 15 in Ibadan.
Subsequently, on November 11, 2025, Justice Peter Lifu of the Federal High Court in Abuja again restrained the PDP from holding the convention.
The PDP faction loyal to Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), did not take part in the convention.
