Tinubu Seeks Senate Confirmation for INEC Commissioner, NAHCON Chairman

President Bola Tinubu has requested the Senate to confirm the nomination of retired Rear Admiral Jamila Abubakar Sadiq as National Commissioner representing Adamawa State at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The request was contained in a letter addressed to the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, and read at plenary on Tuesday.

In the letter, Tinubu said the nomination was made in compliance with Section 154(1) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended).

“I am pleased to forward for confirmation by the Senate the appointment of Rear Admiral Jamila Abubakar Sadiq (retd.) as Commissioner representing Adamawa State at the Independent National Electoral Commission,” the president said, urging the Senate to consider and confirm the nomination expeditiously.

Following the reading of the letter, Akpabio referred the request to the Senate Committee on INEC for further legislative action and directed the committee to report back to plenary within one week.

Similarly, in a separate letter, Tinubu sought Senate confirmation for the nomination of Ambassador Ismail Yusuf as Chairman of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON).

The president said the request was in line with the provisions of Section 3(2) of the NAHCON Act, 2026, and expressed hope that the Senate would confirm the appointment promptly.

Akpabio subsequently referred the request to the Senate Committee on Rules and Business, with a directive to report back to plenary in one week.
