Tinubu Appoints Ex-Military Officer Fadewa as Homeland Security Adviser

President Bola Tinubu has appointed retired Major General Adeyinka Fadewa as Special Adviser on Homeland Security.

The appointment was announced on Monday in a statement issued by Chris Ugwuegbulam, Head of Information and Public Relations at the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.

According to the statement, the appointment was approved in recognition of Fadewa’s long years of service, strategic experience and contributions to Nigeria’s security architecture.

Ugwuegbulam, quoting a circular signed by Ibrahim Abubakar Kana, Permanent Secretary of the General Services Office, said the appointment reflects the administration’s commitment to strengthening internal security coordination and improving intelligence-driven operations across the country.

He described Fadewa as a highly respected retired military officer with more than three decades of experience in intelligence, counter-terrorism, national security strategy and international security diplomacy.

The statement noted that Fadewa served as Principal General Staff Officer to the National Security Adviser between 2015 and 2021, where he played a major role in developing Nigeria’s intelligence coordination framework.

Fadewa’s Background

He was also credited with leading the establishment of the Intelligence Fusion Centre at the Office of the National Security Adviser, bringing together agencies including the Defence Intelligence Agency, National Intelligence Agency, Department of State Services, Nigeria Police Force and the Armed Forces for improved intelligence sharing and coordinated response to security threats.

After retiring from the military, Fadewa became a Senior Research Fellow at the Nigerian Army Resource Centre in Abuja, where he remained involved in policy research and national security discussions.

The statement added that he authored a monograph titled Policing and National Security in Nigeria, which focused on improving cooperation between civil authorities and security institutions.

President Tinubu expressed confidence that Fadewa’s appointment would strengthen efforts to improve homeland security, intelligence integration and proactive risk management in line with the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

The President also urged him to deploy his experience and expertise toward advancing the country’s national security objectives.
