Peter Obi’s ex-running mate, Baba-Ahmed, Declares 2027 Presidential Ambition

Former Labour Party vice-presidential candidate, Datti Baba-Ahmed, has formally declared his intention to contest the 2027 presidential election.

Baba-Ahmed made the announcement during a rally at the Labour Party national secretariat in Abuja on Tuesday.

The 56-year-old Baba-Ahmed further pledged to be loyal to the Labour Party on whose platform he rode to be vice presidential candidate alongside Peter Obi in the 2023 polls, but lost to Bola Tinubu, the then presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

His declaration comes barely a week after former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, announced his exit from the party to join the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Addressing party members and supporters, Baba-Ahmed said his decision was not influenced by Obi’s move, stressing that his ambition preceded the 2023 general election.

According to him, his presidential aspiration is driven by conviction and not tied to any political figure.

“I have made myself available to contest for the office in 2027. I’m not following anybody’s trajectory or stepping into anybody’s shoes,” he said.
