The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed the African Democratic Congress’s reported directive to Peter Obi on his 2027 presidential ambition, describing it as evidence of a collapsing political arrangement.
In a statement on Tuesday, the party’s spokesperson, Seye Oladejo, said the ADC’s public call for Obi to clarify his plans showed “deep confusion and a lack of ideology” within the opposition.
Oladejo noted that the ADC’s message to Obi, combined with its claim that zoning was not under consideration, reflected a party without direction.
APC Accuses ADC of Inconsistency and Internal Contradictions
“Nigeria woke up to another episode of opposition disorder as the ADC ordered Peter Obi to make up his mind on 2027, while also insisting that zoning is off the table,” the statement read. “This is not a strategy; it is confusion. A party that cannot define its own identity now wants to determine Nigeria’s future.”
He said the development amounted to an internal quarrel rather than coherent opposition politics, adding that the ADC had moved from rejecting zoning to issuing ultimatums to a potential candidate it once promoted.
The APC questioned the consistency of the ADC’s positions, asking whether the party sought “power without structure, victory without a plan, or leadership without clarity.”
Oladejo alleged that the ADC was structured around the ambitions of a single individual, leaving Obi caught between conflicting interests.
He said the party’s claim that zoning was irrelevant suggested that its preferred candidate had already been chosen internally.
“It is a coalition without democracy, without fairness, and without future political engineering designed to collapse,” he said.
APC Warns Opposition Not to Distract Tinubu
On Obi’s political approach, the APC argued that he was relying on fragile platforms rather than building structures, describing his method as a “political lottery disguised as strategy”.
The ruling party also cautioned opposition groups against diverting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s attention with what it called “manufactured drama and needless politicking”.
“At this critical time, the opposition should stop distracting the President. He remains focused and determined to steer the country through its challenges,” the statement said.
The APC maintained that its governance record across infrastructure, economy, security, education, health and transportation would stand on its own when campaigns begin.
It concluded that the friction between the ADC and Obi had moved beyond internal disagreement to “a public confession of collapse”, insisting that 2027 would not be decided by “confused coalitions or unprepared leadership”.
