Director-General of the World Trade Organisation, Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, has expressed deep condolences to Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama following the deaths of two cabinet ministers in a fatal helicopter crash.
Ghana’s Minister of Defence, Dr Edward Kofi Boamah, and Minister of Environment, Science and Technology, Dr Ibrahim Murtala Muhammad, were among the eight passengers on board a Z9 military helicopter that crashed in the Ashanti Region while en route from Accra to Obuasi for an official engagement.
WTO Chief Sends Condolences
In a message shared via her official X (formerly Twitter) handle, Okonjo-Iweala wrote: “My deepest condolences to HE President John Dramani Mahama, the bereaved families and the people of Ghana for the tragic loss of the Hon. Min. of Defence Dr Edward Kofi Boamah and the Hon. Min. of Environment, Science and Technology Dr Ibrahim Murtala Muhammad and six others in a terrible helicopter crash.
May their souls rest in perfect peace.”

The accident has plunged Ghana into mourning, with tributes pouring in for the deceased ministers who were considered key figures in President Mahama’s administration.
