The Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) has raised the alarm over fraudulent social media accounts impersonating its Chief Executive, Mrs. Oritsemeyiwa Eyesan.
The Commission, in a statement issued on Thursday, May 21, by the Head, Corporate Communications and Media, Eniola Akinkuotu, said there are currently 15 such fake accounts across social media platforms (X, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn and TikTok).
The Commission clarified that Eyesan has only one social media account, which is a verified page on LinkedIn, adding that the matter has been reported to the appropriate authorities for necessary actions.
It urged members of the public to ignore communications from such accounts, adding that it is the work of fraudulent individuals who are impersonating the Commission Chief Executive with the intention of defrauding people.
The statement titled “SCAM ALERT!!!” reads: “The Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) hereby issues this disclaimer, alerting the public to the activities of fraudulent individuals posing as the Commission Chief Executive, Mrs. Oritsemeyiwa Eyesan, on various social media platforms.
