The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has confirmed that a coach on the Abuja–Kaduna Train Service (AKTS) developed a hot axle some kilometres before arriving at Rigasa Station in Kaduna.

NRC’s Chief Public Relations Officer, Callistus Unyimadu, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday in Lagos, clarifying that the incident occurred on Wednesday evening.

According to him, the issue was caused by wheel friction from abnormal temperature due to excessive heat, but was quickly brought under control.

“The situation was immediately contained, and the train was safely marshalled into Kaduna,” Unyimadu assured.

Passenger Adjustments and Alternative Plans

He explained that the incident will affect seating capacity in the business class coach, adding that passengers who had booked on the affected coach for Thursday had already been contacted through the details they provided online.“Alternative arrangements have been made to accommodate them,” he said.
