The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has sealed two Chinese-owned supermarkets in Jabi District and eight cosmetics shops in Wuse Market, Abuja, for selling unregistered and improperly labelled products.
The seized goods were valued at more than ₦170 million.
The enforcement operation was carried out under the directive of NAFDAC Director-General, Prof. Mojisola Christianah Adeyeye, and led by the agency’s Head of Investigation and Enforcement, Mr Musa Embugushiki.

The affected supermarkets, located on Mike Akhigbe Way and Ebitu Ukiwe Street, were shut down following consumer complaints and surveillance that uncovered the sale of unregistered food items labelled only in Chinese. NAFDAC regulations require all products sold in Nigeria to carry English labels for consumer safety and transparency.
Despite denying the allegations, the operator of the Ebitu Ukiwe Street supermarket was found trading unregistered products during the raid.
In Wuse Market, eight cosmetics outlets were sealed for selling banned, expired, and unregistered items including aphrodisiacs, aesthetic medicines, and body enhancement products. Some traders were also caught impersonating dermatologists and pharmacists to promote harmful products for skin whitening, breast enlargement, weight gain, and sexual enhancement.

Among the confiscated items were Wenicks Capsules, Maxman Capsules, Boobs Enlargement supplements, Curvy Weight Gain products, and Skin Whitening Vitamin Gummies.
Prof Adeyeye warned that such products pose serious health risks including skin cancer, kidney damage, irritability, and memory loss. She reaffirmed NAFDAC’s commitment to safeguarding public health, urging Nigerians to buy only registered products.
She further cautioned foreign business owners to comply with Nigerian laws and encouraged the public to report outlets engaged in illegal sales.
