Jimoh Ibrahim Resumes Duty as Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to UN
Secretary-General of the United Nations, António Guterres has formally received and accredited Jimoh Ibrahim as Nigeria’s permanent representative to the United Nations.

Ibrahim presented his letter of credence on Monday, officially beginning his assignment at the multilateral body.

The former senator had earlier, on April 1, collected his letter of credence from Nigeria’s ministry of foreign affairs after completing the necessary clearance to take up the role.

In a statement issued by Temitope Ajayi, senior special assistant to Bola Tinubu on media and publicity, Ibrahim said the Tinubu administration remains committed to addressing long-standing challenges facing the country.

He also appealed for the support and cooperation of the international community in advancing Nigeria’s priorities.

However, his appointment has drawn criticism from some civil society organisations, which cited ongoing graft-related litigation.

The groups petitioned both Tinubu and Guterres, urging a review of the appointment, describing it as a decision with “significant national and international consequence.”

Photos released from the event captured the moment of his formal accreditation.
