The Federal Government has declared Friday, May 1, 2026, a public holiday in commemoration of this year’s International Workers’ Day.
The announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, in a statement issued on Wednesday and signed by the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Magdalene Ajani.
According to the statement, the minister extended congratulations to Nigerian workers nationwide, acknowledging their resilience and commitment to national development.

“The Federal Government has declared Friday, 1st May 2026, a public holiday to celebrate this year’s International Workers’ Day,” part of the statement reads.
Tunji-Ojo commended workers across various sectors for their dedication, noting that their contributions remain vital to the country’s growth and prosperity.
International Workers’ Day, also known as May Day, is observed annually on May 1 to recognise the contributions of workers and promote labour rights globally.
