The Federal Government has filed a 13-count charge bordering on treason before the Federal High Court in Abuja against individuals accused of plotting to overthrow the administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Those listed in the charge include a retired Major-General, a retired naval captain, a serving police inspector, and three other suspects.
The charges follow the conclusion of investigations by Nigerian security agencies into an alleged plan to violently topple the current government.

Security sources indicate that about 40 individuals were identified in connection with the alleged conspiracy. Of this number, 16 military officers were reportedly arrested for direct involvement, while two civilians were accused of carrying out reconnaissance operations.
Additionally, two suspects were said to have been recruited to incite civil disobedience as a pretext for the coup, while five others are being investigated over alleged links to the funding of the plot.
The case is expected to test Nigeria’s legal and security framework as authorities move to prosecute those implicated in what has been described as a serious threat to national stability.
