Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, confirmed the monarch’s passing in a statement issued by his media aide, Sulaiman Idris, on Thursday.

Governor Lawal expressed deep sorrow over the loss, describing the emir as a dedicated leader and a personal confidant.

“The late Emir of Gusau, Dr Ibrahim Bello, was a supportive royal father and a capable leader who devoted himself to the progress of Zamfara State,” the governor stated.

Lawal offered condolences to the Emir’s family, the Gusau Emirate Council, the Zamfara State Council of Chiefs, and the people of the state. He noted that the emir’s death was not only a loss to Zamfara but to the northern region and the nation at large.

Alhaji Ibrahim Bello was appointed the 15th Emir of Gusau on March 16, 2015, and ruled for a decade. Prior to his ascension to the throne, he served as a civil servant, rising to the position of permanent secretary in the old Sokoto and later Zamfara State.

“I have lost a father and confidant whose counsel was invaluable to the leadership of the state,” the governor added. “May Almighty Allah forgive his shortcomings and grant him Aljannah Firdaus.”

Funeral arrangements are expected to be announced by the Gusau Emirate Council.
