Egbin Power has sustained its host-community scholarship programme for 11 consecutive years, earning fresh commendation from community leaders who say the initiative is helping more young people gain access to quality education and pursue academic excellence.
The recognition came at the 11th edition of the scholarship award ceremony held at the Egbin Power Clubhouse Auditorium, where stakeholders described the scheme as a lasting investment in the future of students across the company’s host communities.
Rather than a one-off intervention, community leaders said the continued scholarship programme has provided a dependable pathway for young people seeking educational opportunities.
High Chief Babatunde Ogunmuyiwa, the Odofin of Ijede, who represented His Royal Majesty, Oba Adefarasin Hassan, the Alajede of Ijede Kingdom, at the award ceremony, said the initiative had positively changed the fortunes of students and families in the communities.
“This scholarship has changed the story for many students and families in our communities. It inspires our young people to work hard and dream higher,” he said.
Ogunmuyiwa commended Egbin Power’s management and staff for sustaining the programme and maintaining its focus on education.
Speaking on behalf of the six Community Liaison Officers representing the host communities, Wahab Bello also praised the company for continuing to invest in the future of young people.
“Egbin Power has demonstrated that it cares about the future of our children and the development of our communities. That is why the scholarship has come to stay,” Bello said.
He urged the beneficiaries to make the most of the opportunity and justify the support provided by the company and their communities.
Chief Executive Officer of Egbin Power, Mokhtar Bounour, said the company viewed education as a critical tool for sustainable development and youth empowerment.
“Education is one of the strongest tools for change. The scholarship programme is a deliberate, long-term investment in young people who will become the leaders, professionals, and change-makers of tomorrow,” Bounour said.

The latest edition also recognised outstanding students, with Royalty Olasunkanmi emerging Top Scholar in the Host Community Category, while Mercy emerged Top Scholar in the Academic Excellence Award Category.
Olasunkanmi thanked Egbin Power and her community for the opportunity, urging other students to work harder in their studies.
Mercy described the award as an encouragement to pursue her academic ambitions.
The scholarship programme is aligned with Sustainable Development Goal 4, which promotes inclusive and equitable quality education and lifelong learning opportunities for all.
Egbin Power said its community development efforts also cover healthcare, youth empowerment and community infrastructure, reflecting its broader commitment to creating lasting value in its host communities.
