E-Kogi Governor Idris Wada, Others Set to Join APC in Major Defection Rally Monday

A major political realignment is underway in Kogi State as former Governor Capt. Idris Ichalla Wada and several notable members of opposition parties are scheduled to formally defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Monday, November 17, 2025.
The APC State Chairman, Hon. Abdullahi Bello (Dollar), announced the development in an invitation issued to party members and the public.
He said the decamping rally will take place at the Muhammadu Buhari Square, Lokoja, beginning at 10 a.m.
According to the statement, dignitaries and party supporters are expected to be seated ahead of the arrival of the National Chairman of the APC.
PDP Crisis Reason For Defection
The event is expected to draw top political figures, party stakeholders, and large crowds from across the state, with analysts describing it as one of the most significant defections in recent years.
Capt. Wada, who governed Kogi State from 2012 to 2016 under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), is considered a major political figure whose move could alter the state’s political dynamics ahead of future elections.

The planned defection comes as the APC intensifies efforts to consolidate its support base across the three senatorial districts and strengthen its position in the state.
Party loyalists believe the development will further unify the ruling party and reinforce its hold on power.
The State Assembly Speaker, Rt Hon. Aliyu Umar Yusuf, had earlier announced during Wednesday’s plenary that two PDP lawmakers, Hon. Bode Ogunmola of Ogori/Magongo State Constituency and Hon. Sunday Daku of Bassa State Constituency, had defected to the APC.
He said the lawmakers cited persistent crises within the PDP, noting they were compelled to join the APC, whose governor, they said, is performing creditably and enjoys widespread public support.
