Boko Haram Issues 72-Hour Ultimatum, Threatens to Relocate 416 Abductees

Boko Haram insurgents have issued a 72-hour ultimatum to the Nigerian government, warning against any attempt to forcibly rescue 416 abducted victims in Borno State.

In a video released on Monday, the group threatened to move the captives, including women and children to undisclosed locations if their demands are not met within the deadline, raising fears that the victims could become permanently unreachable.

The insurgents, dressed in military-style camouflage, also declared readiness for confrontation, daring government forces to attempt a rescue operation.

Delivering the message in Hausa with English subtitles, the group described the warning as its “first and final” communication, insisting it does not recognise the Nigerian government’s authority.

While the terrorists did not clearly outline their demands in the video, sources indicate they had earlier requested a ransom of ₦5 billion for the victims’ release.

The group warned that failure to comply would lead to the relocation of all captives, urging authorities to “take a look at them… because you may never see them again.”

President of the Borno South Youths Alliance, Samaila Kaigama, confirmed prior contact with the insurgents, including the ransom demand during mediation efforts.

He called for urgent intervention, appealing to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, and Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum, as well as wealthy individuals, to help secure the safe release of the victims.
