Arise TV Presenter, Somtochukwu to Be Buried on October 18

The remains of Somtochukwu Christelle Maduagwu, a staff member of ARISE News Channel who died during a robbery attack in her Abuja residence recently, will be buried on Saturday, 18 October 2025.

According to a statement released by Somtochukwu’s family, the Service of Songs will hold at the Corpus Christi Cathedral, Kaduna Street, Port Harcourt, Rivers State, on Wednesday, 15 October 2025. This will be followed by a funeral service at Saint Theresa Catholic Church, Agulu, Anambra State, where she will be laid to rest.

The FCT Police Command stated that Somtochukwu, popularly known as Sommie, allegedly jumped from her third-floor apartment at Unique Estate in Katampe, Abuja, during a suspected armed robbery invasion of the estate.

Maduagwu, a United Kingdom-trained lawyer, transitioned into journalism after working abroad for two years. She later returned to Nigeria to pursue her passion for storytelling, national development, and women’s empowerment.

Her uncle, Engr. Obi Maduagwu, described her as “a brilliant and ambitious young woman who was deeply passionate about politics, the media, and women’s advancement.”

Before joining ARISE News Channel, Somtochukwu had gained national attention as the first runner-up at the Miss Tourism Nigeria pageant, where she was celebrated for her intellect and advocacy for youth and gender empowerment.

Her death has sparked deep grief across Nigeria’s media landscape, with colleagues and friends mourning what they describe as the loss of a rising star whose potential was cut short.
