The All Progressives Congress (APC) has blamed the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for its deepening leadership crisis, dismissing allegations that the ruling party is behind the turmoil.
The response follows comments by ADC National Chairman David Mark, who accused President Bola Tinubu of attempting to weaken opposition parties.
Mark spoke after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced it would no longer recognise the rival ADC factions led by him and Nafiu Bala, citing a Court of Appeal judgement.
APC: Crisis Self-inflicted
In a statement on Thursday, APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, said the ADC’s problems were entirely self-inflicted, accusing the party of resorting to conspiracy theories instead of addressing its internal failings.
He said the ADC had earned a reputation for promoting “baseless conspiracy theories” about alleged plots by the APC to undermine it, describing the opposition party as disorganised and driven by desperation for power.
‘Violation of Party constitution’
Morka argued that the crisis was triggered by the emergence of a factional leadership, alleging that David Mark and Rauf Aregbesola assumed control of the party in violation of its constitution and due process.

According to him, INEC’s decision to withdraw recognition of the Mark-led leadership was in line with the law and the appellate court’s ruling.
He said it was wrong for the ADC to shift blame to the APC, insisting the opposition party must take responsibility for what he described as its “self-inflicted crisis”.
Morka further questioned the ADC’s credibility, saying a party unable to manage its internal affairs cannot present itself as a viable alternative to Nigerians.
APC Defends Record, Knocks ADC
He accused the ADC of focusing more on attacking the APC than offering policy alternatives, adding that the ruling party remains committed to governance under the Tinubu administration.
The APC, he said, will continue to pursue its “Renewed Hope Agenda” while strengthening democratic institutions in the country.
