APC Holds Ward Congresses in Abia

The All Progressives Congress (APC) on Wednesday conducted its ward congresses across Abia State, with the exercise reported to be peaceful and well coordinated.

Speaking during the exercise, the chairman of the APC Ward and Local Government Congress Committee, Emmanuel Goar, said the committee complied strictly with the party’s harmonisation directive to ensure transparent and credible congresses that reflected the wishes of party stakeholders.

The congresses were monitored by Goar, who led a delegation from the party’s National Working Committee.

Officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission were also present in the wards to observe the process.

Addressing party members after monitoring the exercise, Goar expressed satisfaction with the orderly conduct of the congresses, noting that the level of participation and enthusiasm among members showed the growing strength of the APC in the state.

“With what I have seen on the ground, I have no doubt that Abia State is APC. With the determination of the members I have seen here today, APC in Abia State will record a massive victory for President Tinubu in 2027,” he said.

Stakeholders Commend Turnout, Urge Responsibility

Also speaking, Stanley Ohajuruka commended party members for the impressive turnout across the wards.

He thanked the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, and other stakeholders for their roles in ensuring a smooth and credible congress.

Ohajuruka congratulated those who emerged successful in their wards and reminded them of the responsibility placed on them as grassroots leaders.

He said ward executives are central to the party’s success and must work diligently to secure victory for Bola Tinubu and other APC candidates in the 2027 elections.

Local Government Congresses Begin Thursday

The ward congresses mark a key stage in the party’s internal democratic process ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The congress process is expected to continue on Thursday, February 26, 2026, with the conduct of local government congresses across the state.

Earlier, ahead of the ward congresses, The Deputy Speaker, Kalu reiterated that the APC adopted harmonisation for its ward and local government congresses to strengthen unity and cohesion within the party.

Addressing party members at the Renewed Hope Partners office in Umuahia, Kalu said the decision followed agreements reached by the party leadership under President Tinubu, whom he described as a committed democrat and father of the party.

He explained that harmonisation promotes inclusiveness by giving all stakeholders a sense of belonging in the selection of leaders from the ward to the state level, stressing that no individual owns the party.

“APC belongs to every member; nobody is bigger than the party. The party is sovereign,” he said.

Kalu added that as a member of the party’s National Executive Committee and caucus, it was agreed that there should be no parallel processes capable of breeding conflict.

He said when deviations occurred, the president insisted that the decisions of the NEC and caucus must stand, prompting swift intervention by the national chairman and the National Working Committee.

According to him, the resolution of earlier disagreements paved the way for the implementation of the harmonised congresses in Abia, aimed at returning ownership of the party to its grassroots members.
