The All Progressives Congress (APC) has released the guidelines for its 2026 presidential primary election, confirming that the party will use the direct primary method to choose its presidential candidate.
In a statement issued on Thursday by the APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, the party also announced the membership of the Presidential Primary Election Committee, the Appeal Committee and state coordinators for the exercise.
Morka said the decisions were approved by the National Working Committee (NWC) in line with the APC Constitution, the Electoral Act and the party’s commitment to ensuring a transparent and credible primary election process.
Under the approved guidelines, all registered APC members across the country will participate in the presidential primary by voting directly for their preferred aspirants in the nation’s 8,809 wards.

The party said results from the wards will be collated at the 774 local government areas by designated collation officers before being forwarded for further processing.
State coordinators and collation officers will supervise the exercise in the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
According to the guidelines, the collated results will be presented to the Presidential Primary Election Committee in Abuja on May 24, 2026.
Anyim to Lead Presidential Primary Committee
The APC appointed former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Pius Anyim, as chairman of the Presidential Primary Election Committee.
Other members of the committee include former Senate President Ken Nnamani, former Senate Leader Victor Ndoma-Egba, former Speaker of the House of Representatives Yakubu Dogara and former Kogi State Governor Idris Wada.
The party also named former Katsina State Governor Aminu Masari as chairman of the Presidential Primary Election Appeal Committee.
Members of the appeal panel include Samuel Piwuna, a former director at the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), and Patricia Etteh, a former Speaker of the House of Representatives.
Governors, Political Leaders Named Coordinators
The APC further unveiled state coordinators and collation officers for the primary election.
Among those appointed are Hope Uzodimma for Imo State, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq for Kwara State, Ahmadu Fintiri for Adamawa State and Babagana Zulum for Borno State.
Others on the list include Siminalayi Fubara for Rivers State, Dauda Lawal for Zamfara State, Teslim Folarin for Oyo State and Uche Ekwunife for Anambra State.
The party said the appointments cover all 36 states and the FCT, with governors and other political leaders assigned key roles to ensure a smooth conduct of the presidential primary election.
