The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has accused the Federal Government of allowing key institutions, including the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the Nigeria Police Force, to become entangled in partisan politics ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The party raised the concerns in a statement issued on Thursday by its National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi.
Concerns Over Election Logistics
The ADC expressed concern over reports that a faction of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), allegedly associated with MC Oluomo, could be engaged by INEC to handle election logistics.
According to the party, if the reports are accurate, such an arrangement could weaken public trust in the electoral process.
It maintained that INEC’s credibility depends not only on conducting free and fair elections but also on inspiring confidence among political parties and other stakeholders.
Police Accused of Partisanship
The opposition party also criticised the reported appearance of the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Tijani Fatai, at the launch of the pro-Tinubu City Boy Movement.
Abdullahi described the development as evidence of what he called a growing erosion of the line separating state institutions from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
“There are no longer any discernible boundaries between the Nigerian state and the ruling APC. Political actors are openly infiltrating state institutions, while heads of security units who should statutorily maintain neutrality are shamelessly turning into political cheerleaders of the ruling party and the President,” he said.
The ADC further linked its concerns to President Bola Tinubu’s reported remark that “all is fair in war,” saying the comment had heightened public anxiety over the conduct of the 2027 elections.
The party stressed that senior police officers must remain politically neutral, insisting that the Nigeria Police Force serves all Nigerians and not any political party.
Demands for Clarification
The ADC called on the Chairman of INEC, Prof. Joash Amupitan, to explain any relationship between the electoral commission and the NURTW faction allegedly linked to MC Oluomo.

It also asked the Inspector-General of Police to clarify whether the Lagos State Commissioner of Police attended the City Boy Movement event with official approval.
According to the party, disciplinary measures should be taken if the officer attended without authorisation.
However, if the appearance was officially sanctioned, the ADC said the same privilege should be extended to senior police officers to attend opposition political events under similar conditions.
Invitation to Police Leadership
The party announced that it would invite the Inspector-General of Police and the Commissioner of Police in the Federal Capital Territory to its next political event in Abuja.
“In the interest of fairness and equity, we fervently expect them to attend,” the statement added.
